Wedding Albums - Worthy Investment?

When was the last time you physically held an album or even a photograph for that matter in your hands? I bet you’re pushed to remember, aren’t you? We're living in the digital age, physical photographs can be seen as a thing of the past.

But technology changes so quickly, let's take VHS or floppy disk for example. At the time, they were must-haves and people's favourite way of storing memories, but unless you’re an avid collector of old technology (or a bit of a hoarder), you’d be tested to be able to access those memories. So imagine in 20 years' time, who knows what social media will have evolved too, so that certainly isn’t a safe bet to use to access your wedding photographs - Take myspace as an example!

I want to take you back to being a child, carefully flipping through the pages of your mum and dad's wedding album - or maybe even your grandparents if you’re lucky. Having that window into the first few years of their love. Laughing at the fashion or dad's dodgy moustache. There is something truly nostalgic about wedding albums, especially when you’re together with your family reminiscing at the wonderful memories. Remarkable.

I can’t pinpoint exactly when it occurred in society, but sadly wedding albums are not prioritised like they used to be. Instead, we’ve opted to take things online with galleries. And whilst ultimately this does work for most people as your photos can be shared more or less instantaneously with family and friends, I really want you to consider the feelings that holding your wedding album will invoke.

In those moments of sadness when you need a lift, you can curl up on the sofa and transport yourself back to the happiest day of your life. It’s not that easy with digital copies, scrolling through 1000s of photos on your phone to find where your wedding pictures are stored. Your wedding photographs deserve more than that. They should be proudly displayed in your home.

Your wedding album is the first heirloom of your family journey. Something that will be treasured forever and passed down to your children, and then their children. You made a huge investment on your wedding day, so why not invest in preserving those memories?

Ok, “but I can go to free prints and print off an album for next to nothing” I can hear you say. And yes, you’re technically correct - TRUST ME, the quality is a million miles apart. You’re investing a substantial amount in your wedding photographs, please please consider the quality of the prints.

I have spent countless hours researching the best albums for my clients and I am so proud to be using the fantastic guys over at Folio Albums. They are a local team based in Barnsley.

Specialists in what they do, every album is handmade in their Yorkshire workshop and goes through a vigorous quality check, being inspected by several pairs of eyes before they’re dispatched.

"...We worked relentlessly to find the best quality papers, boards and prints. And learnt both the traditional skills and modern techniques to produce handmade fine art albums that will last a lifetime and beyond."

- Folio Albums

When I’m designing your album, I want it to tell the story of your day. I do this by organising the images chronologically so that it is viewed like a timeline of the day, including all the special moments throughout. A typical wedding will have 700+ images provided, whereas your album will have approx 10 spreads, which equates to around 40 photographs of your wedding. By working together, I can help create the story of your favourite images.

I recommend making the decision on this investment sooner rather than later. As the famous saying goes ‘Tomorrow never comes’. We always have the best intentions of planning to do things tomorrow, but life ALWAYS gets in the way, and before you know it you’ll be celebrating your second anniversary and still haven’t had the chance to order it. But by making the decision ahead of time, we can get that first call booked in and a plan put in place. So when your first anniversary comes around, you’ll have those wonderful memories to look back on and transport yourselves back to the day.
